Archives Yan Morvan n°19- La Ligne Verte: Beirut 1985 (2025)

Published last year, this book is a photographic journey inside the Green Line of Beirut. 

A line of demarcation in the capital, during the Lebanese Civil War from 1975 to 1990, separating the mostly Muslim community in the West, from the predominantly Christian factions in the East. 

Along the line, Nature took over abandoned infrastructures, was an unclear and chaotic space, the theater of military occupation, full of broken or abandoned buildings.

In 1985, for over 45 days, photojournalist Yan Morvan walked across this line and met with its people and landscapes. The lens is direct, unapologetic, it shows both the actors and victims of the conflict which has shaken Lebanon for decades, and especially following the 1982 War, and the second invasion of Lebanon by the Zionist entity.

This line stands as a testimony of what a war spanning across three decades will do to a city and its people.

The Yan Morvan Archive collections has now grown to over 18 issues, each offering a focused exploration of a specific moment in history: from the battlefields of Lebanon, Kosovo, or Ukraine to the underground worlds of squats, fetish culture, bikers and hip-hop.
