The right to vote, for everyone. Following the Civil Rights Act the previous year, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is the landmark piece of U.S. legislation that prohibits racial discrimination in voting, especially discrimination against Black Americans but also Native Americans. Obviously there was pushback from white supremacists and racist pigs of varying degrees of subtlety, so several provisions had to be extended throughout the following decades to guarantee fair and equal access to vote.
