DÉJÀ-VU n°1 (1990)

The influential quarterly photo-journal “Déjà-vu” began in Japan in 1990 with Iizawa Kohtaro as editor-in-chief and distinguished itself by the quality of printing and its ability to showcase photography in its most artistic forms.

This special first edition offers a glimpse into the eclecticism of the creative direction from this magazine. Divided by sections, each presenting the work of a different photographer, this edition investigates themes such as the Nature Morte, Nudes, Roots or Cosmology. 

By associating these ancestral subjects with contemporary and experimental photography, the first issue sets a defining tone, traveling between what has never been seen, and what precisely, feels like a “Déjà-vu”.

This issue presents the work of artists such as Yuriko Takagi, Daido Moriyama, Kazumi Kurigamai, Yasumasa Morimura…
