ART TECHNIQUE NOW n°19 : Ikko Tanaka (1977)

This is the 19th edition of the Japanese series “Art Technique Now” dedicated to the work of Japanese designer Ikko Tanaka.

The series offered surveys focusing on individual artists, techniques, and creative practices, each presented as its own volume.  

Ikko Tanaka is famous for his ability in navigating between traditional Japanese culture whilst embracing modern graphic design. In this issue, we can observe many of his posters works and the way he used to build them, almost like sculptures.

In addition, Tanaka had a striking talent for typography and his calligraphic style remained a strong marker in his works. One of the notable projects associated with him concerns the 1964 Olympic Games of Tokyo.
