avant-garde-n-9-march-1969
AVANT GARDE n°9 (March 1969)

Avant Garde was an American arts and politics magazine published in New York from 1968 to 1971. Not only was it one of the most daring publications at the time, pushing taboos in American society, but it was also the most graphically acclaimed for a reason. The art direction was done by Herb Lubalin, one of the most important graphic designers in the second half of the twentieth century. The format of each magazine was the same, shaped like a music record, and featuring the iconic Avant Garde logo. However, each issue presented totally different subjects, making it unexpectable and exciting for the readers. The magazine only lasted for fourteen issues, perhaps due to the quality of each issue which made it hard to sustain.

This is the ninth edition of Avant Garde magazine, published in March 1969. This edition focuses on "The spirit of 1976", the decline and fail of female breast, cat drawings of Guy Bourdin, as well as the Black Power failure.
